Landscaping in Steventon, Abingdon and across Oxfordshire

Gardens she can’t fault.

Patios, lawns, fencing, decking and complete garden transformations. Built properly, and finished like she’s coming round on Sunday.

A grey deck with a woven sofa and sun lounger, a sleeper-edged border, a closeboard fence and a sunlit lawn.
Grey decking, sleeper edging and a lawn: the room with no roof.

The name’s a joke. The standard isn’t.

Every family has someone who runs a finger along the skirting board. We build for her: edges that are crisp, joints that are even, fences that stand up straight.

No two gardens are the same, so we start by finding out what you want. Rob and the team suggest the materials and the layout, give you a clear quote, and explain what’s happening as they go.

The edge is where she looks first.

The best room in the house has no roof.

Here’s how we’d fit it out.

  1. Front door

Block paving and gravel drives, sandstone paths and setts, five-bar and double gates, and the drainage that keeps them dry.

She’ll look at the gate first.

    • Herringbone block paving
    • Gravel
    • Sandstone
A timber five-bar gate beside a herringbone block-paved drive and gravel.
  2. Floors

Sandstone, porcelain and block paving. New turf or artificial lawn, laid on ground that’s been prepared properly.

She’ll check the joints, then the edges.

    • Quartz White
    • Mint
    • Desert Sand
    • Rippon Buff
    • Kandla Grey
A curved sandstone patio edged in brick setts, beside a striped lawn.
  3. Walls

Fencing and trellis, sleeper, brick and slate-clad retaining walls, and gabions.

    She’ll lean on the fence.

    • Closeboard
    • Sleeper
    • Brick
    • Slate
A long sandstone path between two brick retaining walls with sandstone coping, leading to a lawn.
  4. Fittings

Decking, pergolas and arbours, raised sleeper beds, steps, electric points and lighting.

    She’ll sit on the bench.

    • Timber
    • Grey decking
A timber gazebo with seating, on a lawn with stepping stones leading up to it.
  5. Plumbing

Drainage and ACO channels, levelling, topsoil, retaining walls and waste removal. The part nobody photographs.

She’ll ask where the water goes.

    • Drainage
    • Topsoil
An orange drainage pipe laid in a trench beside a brick wall.
  6. Housekeeping

Lawn scarifying and top dressing, courtesy cuts, pruning, small tree work and garden clearance.

    She’ll notice in a fortnight.

    • Turf
    • Top dressing
A green scarifying machine being pushed across a lawn.

A proper look.

Where most gardens are really made.

Most of a good garden is underneath.

Before the turf, there’s a digger. Before the paving, there’s a drain. On one job that meant taking away 100 tonnes of waste, then laying 200 m² of block paving, 100 m² of porcelain and 100 metres of fencing. On another, 20 tonnes of topsoil and a retaining wall nobody will ever see. It’s thirsty work: at least 40 cans of Fanta on one hot job, and a lot of biscuits and pancakes on the wet ones.
